If you want to exchange mail in Cyrillic script with Eudora [Lite], you need certain translation tables. Existing tables <info-mac/comm/tcp/web/eudora-tables.hqx> are defective in not being reversible and in supporting only one alphabet (Russian) and only one character set (KOI8-R). On the contrary, my reversible tables support all Slavic Cyrillic alphabets and the following character sets:
You can find pictures of these character sets in the folder Code Tables.
What to do?
(1) Drag the files from the folder Fonts & Keyboards onto your System Folder and restart your Mac. (ThatÕs only necessary if you do not yet have the Cyrillic script installed.) Once you have the Cyrillic script installed, you have a new menu in the right corner of the menu bar where you can easily change keyboard layouts. If you ever want to de-install the Cyrillic script, press ÒoptionÐspacebarÓ during start-up and drag it out of the System file.
(2) Put the file Eudora Cyrillic Tables into the Preferences folder inside your System Folder.
(3) Start Eudora [Lite] and choose the menu ÒSpecial : SettingsÉÓ. Under ÒSending MailÓ, uncheck the option ÒFix curly quotesÓ. Under ÒFonts & DisplayÓ, set the screen font to Monaco Cyrillic or Geneva Cyrillic.
(4) You can choose the applied translation under the menu ÒMessage : Change : TransliterationÓ. Normally, you would choose ÒMac Cyrillic Ð> KOI8Ó for outgoing and ÒKOI8 Ð> Mac CyrillicÓ for incoming mail. If you exchange mail with an MS Windows user, you may find it advantageous to use ÒMac Cyrillic Ð> CP 1251Ó for outgoing and ÒCP 1251 Ð> Mac CyrillicÓ for incoming mail. To send mail without translation, choose ÒMac CyrillicÓ.
For convenience, the standard ISO-Latin-1 (ISO-8859-1) translation table is also included so that you can trash the old file EudoraTables.
(5) If you need Cyrillic TrueType or PostScript fonts for printing, you can download such from:
